Wie man auf GeoHots Blog entnehmen kann, plant er kein Update für seine Tools purplera1n oder purplesn0w. Seit dem Release der iPhone Firmware 3.0.1 funktioniert nur noch redsn0w vom DevTeam mit einem kleinen Trick, hier der Blogeintrag dazu.
Geohot selber behauptet von sich, er sei zu faul um seine Tools anzupassen, da er den 3.0er Kernel an einem ganz bestimmten Ort patchen würde. Grundsätzlich sei es nicht nötig eine originale IPSW zu haben. Im gleichen Atemzug stellt er resn0w als komplex und langsam hin, er will etwas das kurz und knapp funktioniert – ohne gross hin und her klicken zu müssen.
Currently, it doesn’t work, and I don’t plan to ever make it work. Apple changed the kernel from 3.0 to 3.0.1, and I patch the kernel in a very specific spot. [...] No reason you need to push buttons or give the jailbreak program an ipsw; you can still write something generic that’ll work on every device and version. And be fast. But I’m too lazy to write it.
Abschliessend meint er noch, er wollte nur ein “Proof of Concept” hinstellen als er seine purple-Programme entwickelt hat. Ich lasse es jetzt mal meinen Kommentar dazu zuschreiben.
It was really more proof of concept to show whats possible; same thing with purplesn0w.

Vor einigen Tagen hat Geohot sein Purplera1n Tool für Windows veröffentlicht und erklärt kurz, wie der Jailbreak zu gehen hat. Bevor ihr den Jailbreak versucht, sichert euer iPhone sowie die iBEC und IBSS Dateien wie hier beschrieben.
Voraussetzungen
- iPhone 3G S
- purplera1in von hier
- Windows (Windows 7 ist ab RC1 unterstützt von purplera1n) mit iTunes 8.2
Ihr müsst ein echtes Windows am laufen haben – das heisst, via VMware Fusion klappt es nicht, iTunes erkannte bei mir das iPhone nicht. Erst als ich auf einer Vista Maschine iTunes installiert hatte, funktionierte es problemlos!

Nachdem das DevTeam in einem offiziellen Statement keinen Jailbreak für das 3GS bringen wollte, ehe Apple das Update 3.1 veröffentlichte, machte sich Geohot selber an die Arbeit und veröffentlichte über Nacht seinen eigenen Jailbreak!
Geohot schreibt das DevTeam auch direkt an in seinem Blog und erklärt, dass er normalerweise keine Tools für die Öffentlichkeit schreibt. Aber er versteht die Beweggründe nicht, normalerweise ist es ein Katz und Maus spiel und kein Abwarten wer den nächsten Schritt macht.
But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole…this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week. Also your purplera1nyday files ensure that you can always get back to a jailbroken state, so if you have it it’s just a matter of tools.
Ganz klar, Geohot ist nicht begeistert von der Überlegungsart vom DevTeam und verspricht, dass er ein weiteres Sicherheitsloch findet um einen Jailbreak weiterhin zu garantieren.
Ich werde Geohots purplera1n auf jedenfall heute noch Testen und hier ein Howto veröffentlichen. Bevor jedoch ein Jailbreak versucht wird, werde ich meine iBEC und iBSS meines iPhones auslesen und zur Seite speichern – sobald ich es geschafft habe, werde ich das Howto veröffentlichen!
